What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist
Mechanism of action mimics a natural hormone in the body called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which is released after eating to help regulate appetite and blood sugar levels.

The way semaglutide works for kidney-related risk reduction is not fully understood.

Semaglutide belongs to the drug class called GLP-1 receptor agonists use to:

Before taking this medicine:

Tell your doctor and pharmacist what other prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products you are taking or plan to take.
Before using Oral Semaglutide, tell your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions, including if you:

-       Have a history of vision problems related to your diabetes

-       Have or have had problems with your pancreas or kidneys

-       Are scheduled to have surgery or other procedures that use anesthesia or deep sleepiness (deep sedation) .

-       Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Oral Semaglutide will harm your unborn baby. You should stop using Oral Semaglutide 2 months before you plan to become pregnant

-       Breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Oral Semaglutide

You should not take Semaglutide if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

You or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)

What happens if I miss a dose?

For Rybelsus: Skip the missed dose and use your next dose at the regular time.
Do not use two doses of semaglutide at one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line. Overdose symptoms may include change in your heart rate, drowsiness, cold and clammy skin, slow breathing, fainting or coma.

What should I avoid?

Do not drink alcohol. Do not used recreational drugs.
Check your food and medicine labels to be sure these products do not contain alcohol. Avoid driving or operating machines until you know how this medicine will affect you. Dizziness or severe drowsiness can cause falls or other accidents.

Get emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to Oral Semaglutide: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

 Call your doctor at once if you have:

• seizure (convulsions);
• weak or shallow breathing;
• high levels of serotonin in the body - agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, fainting; or
• severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

Common Semaglutide side effects may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea or constipation
• Fatigue
• Stomach or abdominal pain
• Constipation
• Reduces sugar production in the liver
• Slows down digestion, so food stays in the stomach longer
• Decreases appetite and food intake

In rare cases, there may be more serious risks like pancreatitis or gallbladder issues.

Take Oral Semaglutide exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to

For guidance:
Starting: 3mg once a day
Maintenance: 7mg once a day
If needed or prescribed: 14mg once a day

Always take the pills with plain water and do not mix with any other liquids besides water.
Do not split, crush, or chew. Swallow Oral Semaglutide whole

Limitations of use:

Not suitable for individuals with a history of thyroid tumors (including medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 [MEN 2]), gallbladder disease, pancreatitis, or diabetic ketoacidosis. It's contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding and not recommended for people with severe liver or kidney disease. Users may also experience potential risks like weight regain after stopping the medication and gastrointestinal issues such as nausea and diarrhea

Many drugs can interact with Oral Semaglutide, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines and vitamins. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
